Yogurt can substitute anti depression drug

Bacteria in the gut was related to the brain. Several intestinal disorders are known due to psychiatric disorders such as stress, depression and anxiety. Now scientists reveal that the depression experienced by a person can be combated by consuming probiotics.

One probiotic that is easily obtainable at a yogurt drink containing probiotic. Drinking yogurt is also considered better than the consumption of antidepressants because of fewer side effects.

The findings, reported online in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences said that the results obtained could lead to new ways to control depression, anxiety and other disorders.

“It allows a person to eat yogurt with probiotics and not the antidepressants,” says researcher John Cryan, a neurologist at University College Cork in Ireland, as quoted by LiveScience, Sunday (09/04/2011).

Cryan said to affect the bacteria in the intestines it can develop a broad spectrum of chemicals in the brain and behavior. As well as allowing the development of therapies for treating psychiatric disorders by targeting the gut.

“The effects depend on the probiotic strain depending on the yogurt, so it does not mean every day should eat yogurt. But it is expected to have fewer side effects compared with drugs,” he said.

The researchers indeed have long suspected that bacteria in the gut associated with the brain. For example, some known intestinal disorders resulting from psychiatric disorders such as stress, depression and anxiety in that person.

To find out, researchers experimented on mice given broth containing Lactobacillus rhamnosus JB-1 (bacteria that occurs naturally in the intestines).

Mice given bacteria known to have behavioral stress, anxiety and depression are less. Stress hormone corticosterone levels were significantly lower as well. This suggests that the bacteria can be used as probiotics to improve health.

Not  Cooled yogurt, the benefit gone

Yogurt is a drink that much loved by both children or adults. But you should not buy the yogurt that is not cold, because there is no benefit.

” Yogurt is not cool or not placed in the refrigerator should not have bought, because there is no benefit,” said Dr. Prawita Tirta Sari, MSc Monday (05/02/2011).

Dr. Tirta said yogurt usually contains good bacteria called probiotics, and probiotic can survive at a certain temperature or temperature. If yogurt is not cold then the probiotics contained in it can not survive and die, so there is no benefit.

“If that’s the only sour taste are obtained. But are hazardous to health or not is unknown. During the packaging of yoghurt is not damaged, but Yogurt is not cool or not placed in the refrigerator then probiotic  gone,” he said.
